House HR1, Amsterdam Center, 1997
This commercial building from the 1950s was converted into a painting studio in the 1980s
1997
The extension at the rear of the house on the first and second floors was demolished.
On the first floor a new extension was added with the bedroom and a small terrace.
On the second floor, a south-facing roof terrace was added to the new extension.
This terrace and the industrial skylights make the second floor much more attractive than the larger first floor, which faces north towards the narrow street.
To ensure even use of the different spaces, the routing in the new floor plan first leads from the street and the storage room to a spacious hall with fireplace, sitting area and work table on the first floor.
On the second floor, the routing lands on the north side, with an enclosed sitting area and finally leads to the kitchen and the terrace, the most attractive part.
A number of elements of the former painting studio, such as the mosaic floor and some large paintings, have been preserved.
1999
The photo studio on the ground floor is designed as an open space with different areas, very open at the front and increasingly more private at the back.
Four-metre-long work tables have been designed for the studio and the hall.
