Hair salon, Hilvarenbeek, 2013
An old village house with a shop, a later extension and a 1950s forge: a total surface area of 400 m2 converted into a hair salon, architecturally in collaboration with BedauxDeBrouwer architects.
Each of the three building volumes was given its own material and colour scheme.
The old house became reception area downstairs, office and staff area upstairs. It has a wooden floor, the plastered walls and wooden ceilings are painted red-brown - café au lait. The extension was demolished and replaced by a new connecting space oriented towards the new courtyard.
The old forge was partly rebuilt, with a concrete-coloured tiled floor, brick walls painted in a green/blue colour and a metal acoustic ceiling.
All furniture has been newly designed: chairs were assembled from existing elements, teak veneer dressing tables stand on metal tables with a sand structure powder coating.
The wash basins, kitchen and storage room are in three lower side rooms.
