Farm A, Lage Mierde, 2008
In the long main wing, a new steel structure takes over the load-bearing capacity of the wooden trusses, that are too low, and of the weakened facades.
This created large, empty open spaces.
By making the slope of the roof inside smaller than outside, these spaces were given pleasant proportions and the reveals of the roof lights were made extra high - so that the sunlight reflects on those reveals.
The roof is newly thatched but not straightened and has no gutters.
The street facade has been restored to what is considered old condition, the rear facade has been completely opened up: the steel supporting structure is situated in the old facade surface and is therefore more defining than the internal glass facade.
The building application for this project was nominated for the North Brabant Province Aesthetics Award in 2005.
In 2008 the project was nominated for the Lai Interior Award.
