House AE, Amsterdam South, 2019
After twenty-five years in the house and their son having left home, the residents, a married couple, wanted to improve their home.
The ground floor was extended with a narrow veranda spanning the entire width.
This made the living room and kitchen more spacious and more accessible to each other, and the incidence of light improved considerably.
The skylight above the extension is fully supported by a high beam, which made a very slender façade possible. The high beam also prevents the neighbours at the back from looking into the living room. Zenital light rays are reflected on the beam and are thus
visible in the living room.
On the first floor the bathroom was renovated, the second floor was given a new layout with a spacious guest room, a spacious landing and a small bathroom.
